Booked for lunch, on a cold Sunday in February. Staff were extremely friendly, good range of well kept cask ales and plenty of menu choice. Food was excellent, especially the veg with the roast beef.
My only criticism - no real fires lit at all.
It was a very cold day and I was looking forward to sitting next to one!

This quirky pub is an absolute gem! I adore the cozy open fires, the warm welcome for dogs, and the friendly, attentive staff. The food is fantastic, and the overall vibe is incredibly inviting. I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone, whether you're a local, a visitor, or just passing through.

We called in today for lunch after walking Mam Tor at for sunrise.

Love the pub, love the food and love the service. We popped into a few of the other venues and everything was very ordinary in comparison.

Well done!

The staff is very friendly. The person who showed us the room was very kind.

The room was large, but unfortunately very cold and moulded too. The small radiator was hot, but poor insulation means that the room was still cold and damp. I tried to take a hot bath but the water was only lukewarm. Fortunately the shower temperature was good (not sure why the difference though)

It was also loud, no sound proofing so you can hear everything from the pub.

The kettle was malfunctioning, it wouldn't switch off automatically after water is boiled. There are also some electrical installation issues which were making a buzzing noise.

It was a stylish room, but it requires refurbishment, especially bathroom and carpet.
The room has only one tiny window. I think with some work, it could be an amazing place. I liked the decorations!

Great place ,nice drinks and pub quiz . Great drinks, great staff, but if you're doing the Thursday night quiz, don't forget your phone because everyone else googles the questions in the toilets, outside or at the bar . We couldn't believe there could be so many cheats for a quiz night. The quiz guy knew about it but did nothing . Lost a bit of it's magic for us as visitors. But still a nice pub in a great village

Lovely little pub that allows dogs. Provision to get your fur baby a bowl of water. Really friendly landlord and staff who exchanged a bit of banter with.
We only had dessert as we had eaten in another pub locally prior to moving in to here. Dessert was lovely.
Male toilets very clean and well dressed with vintage mirrors and the like. Yeah, what can a say, lovely pub and staff. Worth a visit!

I stayed two nights in Castleton in mid-November amid some early snow which made the village and the walks around the hills stunning.

But the real treat came after a long day of hiking when I was able to return to a cozy pub to have a hot meal, a pint of ale and a nice read by a roaring fire.

The four-poster room was spacious and clean, with a beautiful view over the hills and fields. Meal portions were generous and very delicious, and all the staff were friendly and accommodating.

If you are looking for a cozy experience in a cozy local pub in the middle of Derbyshire, look no further than the Peak Hotel.
