Reviews of Suttons
A O
I bought 72 impatiens plug plants. As the delivery charge was disproportional , I added 24 petunia and 12 lobelia. They were all dispatched together but the impatiens took over one week from despatch to receipt and were all dead or so damaged they died within a day. The petunias failed to take and only 3 are alive. The lobelia are alive but a month later hardly grown at all despite potting on. Although I received a refund for the impatiens, the already steep delivery charge was not refunded and became even higher per plant than when I first started. Quality poor. Not impressed at all and garden has failed for 2024.

Having waited over three weeks for an order of five trays of plants, I was horrified at the state of some of them when they arrived, in fact one complete tray cannot be revived.

I’m giving no stars as out of three orders for several plugs, a few plants and two hanging baskets only one hanging basket, two plugs and a plant were salvageable . Trying to get through to customer service is a nightmare and getting a refund is virtually impossible. The hanging baskets were packed sideways so most of the soil had come out. Take no notice of the pictures on the website or in a brochure as they’re going to nothing like it.
The only good thing that I can say is that the seeds arrived safely.
Never again and would not recommend.
The pictures are of the basket we managed to make another basket from. The other one was in a heap of soil.

They say poor quality and damaged products arriving are rare, but out of two orders I placed, both orders were a disaster, and totally unsalvageable, and appalling customer service.
My first order arrived in awful condition, the grafted veg hadn't taken and was rotting. For this I was given a refund in the way of a gift card.
I used the gift card to buy some more plants, a mentha aquatica and some french beans. They both arrived, again, in awful condition. The French beans looked like they'd been kicked about, and the mentha aquatica like it had been dropped many times.
My first email was ignored, and my second I got a response saying they would refund me.
I got a refund that covered the cost of the French beans only, even though I'd had to pay out another £4.99 for the delivery fee and the difference in costs after using the gift card.
I then had to keep sending emails after Sutton's continuously tried to short change me, it has taken over two months to get my money back. After they refunded me for the beans, they told me after a few more emails back and forth that they would refund the rest. I received a refund of £0.90... but was told I would get the full amount refunded. They then told me that this wasn't their problem and that it was my banks fault!!!
I was then asked to contact my bank, which I did, and wasted more of my time waiting to get through to someone just to find out that the bank has no control over anything being refunded and that it was an issue from Sutton's.
I emailed Sutton's back and they said they were sorry there were problems they were aware of in the finance department!!! They knew there was issues, yet they made it my problem and my banks fault!! Absolutely furious.
After this they tried to fob me off again, by telling me (for the 5th time) that I'd had my money back already. I then forwarded all my previous correspondence to the new reference number they'd sent me (probably the 3rd of 4th reference number) and today I get a refund. No communication, no good will gesture for the stress and frustration they've caused. Just the refund.
This had been an ongoing issue since May. Absolutely disgusting service.

Avoid. Pay more and shop with a local, independent garden centre.
Suttons sold me plants they don't seem to have, lied to me about their despatch window, then lied again about having sent them. This whole experience was then repeated, wasting my time and effort.
I have not received any plants from Suttons, nor have I received any explanations, or any compensation following my complaint. All they had to offer me were a pack of lies and weak apologies.
Reported to Trading Standards. I am still waiting for my refund.

This was my first purchase from Suttons, online, and I wasn't sure what to expect receiving seedings through the post! The order took some time to arrive, but I was pleasantly surprised when they did - 70 assorted seedlings flat packed and pretty healthy. They were easy to extract, after a brief soaking, and potted out as instructed, and now time will tell?

Very disappointed ? all sweetcorn was broken and limp from lack of water badly packed! Even if was refunded i just wanted my plants to turn up in a good condition! Maybe you should rethink packaging ?... you should be ashamed really as big of as a company as you are!
Found a fantastic little farm that has a better understanding of how to treat plants ... try HERBAL HAVEN GUYS XXX
I hear you suttons of youre kind words! However on looking at the reviews this is not a one of? This is a continuous problem ?. You really need to change your delivery provider (dhl) are pretty good . Also the way you packaged them is not exceptable. You are just killing plants for no reason. Also the length of time it takes to get to destination. However I've order from a nursery 150 miles away and they was delivered within 4 days ! And arrived in outstanding condition !

Extremely disappointed by Suttons. I read good things on the web about them and therefore I placed a few orders over the last weeks.
There are several things I'm deeply unsatisfied with. First of all, the customer service is not great. Delays in answering emails or no reply at all.
Deliveries are terrible. The couriers just placed the boxes in front of my door. No knock, no ring. Nothing. I discovered the packages only when I happened to open the door. The plants were delivered in a terrible state in pretty much all circumstances. They were clearly shaken during transportation. Most of the times the plants were not on their place, with loads of bruises, soil and compost all over the place. See attached pics for a typical example
After a few weeks from the deliveries, I can now say that around 80-85% of the plants I received by Suttons are dead or in an awful state. I might not be the best of the gardeners around, but all the plants bought elsewhere are thriving in my garden.
I wrote them in several circumstances, complaining about the state of the dispatched plants. The first time I received a patronizing answer saying the plants were ok (most of them are dead now). Then they stopped answering my emails.
I'm sorry to write that, but I strongly recommend against this company.
