All was going so well. I had a good pitch with room, a lovely welcome when I checked in and the loos and showers were fine (two showers and two loo cubicles in a clean block). The site is within an easy bus ride to Durham which is a great city to explore. However……on Friday afternoon there were a good number of arrivals (expected, of course, for the weekend) of people that clearly knew each other (I wondered if they were also in the area for the Appleby Horse Fair). The noise levels that evening started to rise from the pitches just across the way from me. At 11pm the noise levels were still significant. There was a lull at about 11.45pm I think……but then started up sometime after midnight and lasted until at least after 1am. I was not going to venture out to ask a rather rowdy group to quieten down. It spoilt what was a great couple of nights for me here. And it’s clearly been an issue with other campers here. If I was staying mid week I guess it wouldn’t be an issue.||I had plenty of space on my pitch but I did notice some pitches very close together. I didn’t choose my pitch when booking but got allocated it on arrival. This might be an issue for some. ||My advice - if you’re after a quiet camp, avoid weekends, school holidays and bank holidays. If you want some space, worthwhile putting a request in when booking. I was aware of road noise but it was in the background and didn’t disturb me.

Stayed for 4 nights in one of the static caravans.

Lovely site in a great location, only about 10 minute drive from Durham.

The caravan was clean and very well equipped, and the onsite cafe is great and very useful!

My only constructive feedback would be to have allocated car parking for the static caravans. The parking area is small, and on more than one occasion, we really struggled to park by our static caravan, which was a bit frustrating. It seemed to be that campers were using the static caravan parking, instead of parking on the camping fields. I think allocating one space per static van would relieve this issue very simply.

We would still definitely come back!!

We chose the park for our first holiday in a new caravan following recommendations from friends who had stayed before. |The site is small and pitch space quite tight however it had what we needed for the 2 nights we stayed. |The tea room and bar were great and very reasonably priced and the showers were okay. However, there seems to be some permanent residents and the general state of the site in these areas was very poor, lots of mess and empty food and drink cans / boxes. The noise at night was uncontrolled and quite intimidating, going on until 4am with lots of shouting and loud music. |Perhaps we were unlucky, however we won’t be returning to what could be a lovely site.

We have been camping for over 30 years and this is only the second campsite I have left early. This site is by far the worst I have ever stayed. There are no rules. Campers and owners have open fires with smoke going in to your caravan. Noise goes on until the early hours. Football is being played constantly both on the site and in the owners garden with the ball repeatedly going on your pitch and under your caravan. The toilet facilities are dirty and broken and the campsite shares these with the bar and cafe. If you want a shower anyone using the bar and cafe will be in there using the toilets of which there are only two as they are in the same room. New toilet block has never been opened. There was glass on the children’s play area which was also rickety and dangerous. The owners are nice until you complain about the football. You can then go in to the shop and get ignored. Most of the campers seem to know each other. Some appear to be permanent residents. There were scrap metal / gardening pick up trucks working from one caravan and sign written vans arriving. There was also a constant smell of weed. This is the only campsite that I have not felt safe to walk around on my own and also have not felt safe leaving my caravan unattended to go out for the day.

Cracking little campsite,
Tidy place we came mid-week so the bar and cafe were closed but it looks great, lovely people on site with dogs, not much in the way of walks around the site or nearby so we went for a drive and a walk, a safe barrier to get in and out so we felt safe. A bit of noise from the house but rain stopped play there lol. Dog friendly.

We stayed here in early April and it was fine. We had the misfortune to book in over the Easter period and pay for 5 nights at over Ā£40 a night for our motor home. We stayed for one hour!We had a view of tents crammed in next to us, less than 2ft away. Football being played next to our 70k van and a baby screaming in the tent 2 ft away. I’m sure these people had a great time but for a couple in our 70’s, it was not for us. I did email the owners but didn’t get a reply.
