Feel I should point out the reason why this farm is surrounded by the motorway isn’t because the farmer refused to sell, it is because the land is a long wide slope so it wasn’t possible to build both carriageways adjoining in already very difficult terrain. As each was being built separately, the routes went around the farm so there was no need to knock it down.

Still always nice to see when driving past.

What a cool little farm. Thought I would just mention this: The owners didn't refuse to move so the government could make the M62, the ground was not strong enough to hold a busy motorway. Always fun to drive past

In the words of John Shuttleworth;

"I feel like the man who lives
On that farm which sits
In the middle of the M62

I thought it would be alright
Now I can't sleep at night,
Some things you cannot undo"

It is hard to find things which unite the people of Lancashire and Yorkshire in total agreement, but the iconic status of the farm in the middle of the M62 is one of those things and for that we salute the farmer who took on the road and won.
