This place probably deserves a lower score from me, but clearly when it’s open it’s excellent so that would perhaps be unfair.

I now realise it’s ‘temporarily closed’ having looked on google but the many signs all along the Ashby Canal proudly proclaim that it’s very much open. So having seen them we moored our boat and set off along the towpath only to find a big metal gate across the entrance with some very authoritive signs warning of cctv security and no trespassing. We even walked around to the road entrance and found the gate firmly padlocked. The sign for their campsite next to the gate still says closed due to Covid so this hasn’t been updated either.

My issue is not that this place is closed it’s the fact that there are loads of signs up on the canal saying otherwise. Why on earth hasn’t someone either taken them down or stuck a temporarily closed sticker on them.

We wasted 45 minutes today trying to shop here. I wouldn’t bother again.

We were on the Ashby Canal where there is virtually no local shops without a long walk into Bosworth. We tried a few farm shops but this one was the best by far. Great home sausages (the chorizo style ones are really nice) lovely bacon, home made pies - I recommend the home made sausage rolls, delicious, plus a good range of the usual needs, milk. Veg, cheese etc. Moor up by bridge 23, you won't be disappointed.

Tiny shop but big choice of meats, fresh and frozen. Delicious home cooked sausage rolls and scotch eggs, eggs and vegetables available also. Owner is lovely, friendly and helpful. When back on Ashby will call in and restock.

Shame the sign posts along the canal don't state opening hours. After counting down the bridges and mooring up. We find they are closed on Sundays. Two very disappointed children who have been waiting for ice cream. We could have stopped elsewhere!

Plenty of fairly fresh veg to hand and plenty of decent meat products plus dairy stuff and bread.

Very pleasant lady runs it and doesn't charge exhorbitant charges, but be warned...they aren't Lidl prices...so get over your shock horror now.

Only drawback is the shop is dry so you would have to schlep up the hill to Stoke Golding village shop for your booze hence a star deducted.

This is a little gem! Quite a small shop but loads of meat in the freezer and it's all sourced locally and hung so it tastes of something! Some nice options such as venison too.
