Scawby Hall is a Grade 1-listed, Jacobean manor house, begun by Richard Nelthorpe (1569-1640) and has been lived in by members of the Nelthorpe family ever since.

The house has been expanded and remodelled by successive generations and is now open to the public on limited days each year.

Historic House membership gave us free admission to the house and garden.

Parking is available at the Hall, there are beautiful gardens to explore and a guided tour of the house which focuses on the family and some of the vast collection of paintings. I certainly recommend prior booking.

Our tour guide was informative, if slightly dry at times (there was a lot of information on family members). But,when the narrative switched to the more eccentric owner who had left the Hall in a state of disrepair it made the Hall and it's occupants come to life. No photos allowed inside the Hall, but I can assure you it is a beautiful home.

We have just moved to the village and booked a tour. It was a wonderful experience to go through the history of the building and to feel the atmosphere of the home, well worth the money , will visit again to walk the garden when it is a better time of year.

The house and gardens are ok. The problem was the guided tour which took about twice as long as needed and ended up being boring. Teas available in the church, but the choice was limited

Excellent guided tour with lots of details about the house and family history. Gardens looked great but we ran out of time to see them.
Would recommend this visit to anyone interested in local history.

Brilliant guided tour with very knowledgeable guide. The gardens are well worth a visit, with many different types of fruit trees as well as perennial boards crammed with a wide variety of plants. Will go again!
