We had a lovely 4 night stay in the Cart Lodge at Rye Farm. The accommodation is spacious for 2 and very comfortable and cosy and very quiet. Parking directly outside. Despite a few showers we found so much we wanted to do and all within a short drive. Nature is everywhere including just outside this accommodation on the moat of the farmhouse. We saw a Little grebe every day amongst other water birds. We even saw a Muntjac from our bedroom window and a mother and baby rabbit on the driveway. Fingringhoe Wick nature reserve is a short drive away and has lovely walks and some great nature including Nightingales, Adders and some beautiful Green Winged Orchids. Recommend visits to Colchester Castle and the Zoo.

5 star accommodation! 4 generations of our family stayed for a weekend of fun. Rosie and family welcomed us and provided every detail of comfort. Children watched the birds on the water, the sheep and even saw a fox. Easy walk to local pub where we enjoyed a relaxed excellent meal. Both the historic Colchester and West Mersey are close by.

We had a really enjoyable stay having booked all 4 units for family and friends as our daughter was getting married at nearby Layer Marney Tower. The accommodation is well-equipped, beautifully presented and was spotlessly clean when we arrived. In addition to the food we had pre-prepared, our hosts provided basics like toiletries as well as tea and coffee and fresh milk. There is a local shop and pub within walking distance. Having such a hassle-free base contributed to a most enjoyable wedding and Virginia and Peter also took the trouble to come to see our daughter setting off for the ceremony which was such a thoughtful touch. We will definitely come again if we need accommodation in the area.

Super accommodation for a relaxing break, ideal for easy walking.|| Virginia and Peter gave us a warm welcome. We were very comfortable in Pond View and took pleasure in having such a tranquil scene on view. ||Just short walk from the accommodation are some great views of the reservoir. From the farm it is only a 10 minute walk along the lane to The Layer Fox, a friendly pub offering excellent food. Further afield there is an easy beach walk along the Frinton promenade and for architectural enjoyment, the picturesque towns of Maldon and Burnham on Crouch are nearby and worth a visit.

I stayed at Rye Farm on and off for 2 months for work, and I can honestly say it was brilliant. From the first day it felt like a home away from home, not only thanks to the facilities but also the attentiveness and accommodating nature of the hosts. Would 100% recommend a stay in this lovely, family run, self catering accommodation.

Such a wonderful, peaceful place to stay, a feeling of isolation and tranquillity, lovely views but also close to many amenities and other attractions.|We stayed at Pond View, ideal for two of us, and everything we needed for our stay with regards to equipment.|Thank you for such cosy accommodation!
