We ordered 16 peonies early this year. Delivery was fast and efficient. That is where the good part ends. Though the plants were supposed to be potted they were in effect bare root plants with some very loose compost in the pot; the plants were in no way established. Some of the leaf tips were brown on some of the plants. Three months later, despite planting in accordance with the instructions and regular watering (and feeding) all of the plants are dead or dying. We have many other peonies and have never experienced any problems. Unfortunately some of our plants, nearest to the area where we planted the 16, are now going the same way. It took over two weeks for a response to my first email, that requested photographs, which I sent. I have heard nothing since despite regularly chasing a response. Use this company with caution.

I finally received a response. Apparently, according to the Senior Nurseryman, it is all my fault for the way I have planted the peonies! How they can tell that from the photos is beyond me. No response to my comments regarding the quality of the plants provided i.e. their not being as advertised. I now have to wait to see if the plants grow again next year before I can ask for a refund according to the company's terms and conditions!

Update: I waited the year and applied for a refund for the four plants that did not reappear. None are great but they are at least there. Primrose's response was that I could not have a refund, their policy was to replace. I was advised that the plants would be with me in about two weeks. After six weeks I went back to them and said that enough was enough I would now like a refund. They said that I had been told it could take time and I needed to wait. I waited. I was then contacted and advised that one of the peonies was not available and I needed to select another. I did. I was then contacted and advised that another was unavailable and they would refund that plants cost. I waited another two weeks and was contacted to be told that none of the plants were available and so they would refund the cost of the three other plants. So nearly two years from our first order our new bed still has gaps in it; I will not be ordering the fillers from Primrose Hall!

So terrible, takes weeks and weeks for them to reply, 28 days to deliver to have spent £36 on a peony advertised as at “flowering maturity” it was in its flowering season with no buds or stems a tiny scrap and tuber shoved in soil. They then send rude emails and stop replying all together. Do not buy. I’ve had to go to Claire Austin to rebuy this very expensive peony. I could have bought this size for £10 from the garden center

I'm a bit late writing this review but wanted to just thank the team at Primrose Hall for the beautiful 'Scrumdiddlyumptious' intersectional peony that I recently bought. It was simply stunning last spring and the reason for the late review is that I just moved it to a more permanent spot in the garden (using some planting tips from the youtube channel) and got excited about next springs flowers again! Such a beautiful peony, will be watching to see when its back in stock so I can buy another!

Apparently, it is perfectly acceptable to send plants of different sizes ( see photo).
When I contacted them via email; their response was down right rude, condescending and arrogant!
I have never been sent plants by other companies that are not of a similar height and size when ordering more than one plants.
This company, clearly, do not care or give a cuss about providing or giving plants/customer service.
GASLIGHTING a customer is disgusting. The passive aggressive reply was shocking to say the least!
I wish I had seen all the negative reviews before purchasing from them.
AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!

Order handling service was fine- informed of delay of dispatch due to poor growing season. Then it all went wrong. I had a message to say that the peonies had been dispatched for delivery the following day. Problem was we were away on half term holiday, so no one in to accept. If there had been say a week of pre- notification of delivery, then I could have advised to hold dispatch for a week. You would have thought that being half- term at the end of lockdown their May have been some forethought by Primrose, but no. Fortunately, our neighbours took them in, opened the packing and kept them watered. On arriving at home, I immediately collected them. To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. Great big boxes, small plants, that didn’t look too healthy. They went straight into the ground, but after a week it was clear two of the three purchased were flagging. I contacted customer service. No response for a week. Contacted again, which received a response after a few days, requesting photos, which I duly sent. Another week or so went by, with one plant expiring before I chased again. No response received and this was over a week ago. In summary, poor quality, over - priced plants, poor communication in respect of delivery arrangements and pretty non- existent customer service. I advised if no response was forthcoming regarding a solution I would have no alternative but to post a poor review and send the plants back- still nothing, hence 1- star. Photo left (dead top), centre (dead), right alive but 20cm high and virtually no growth. This represents £120’s worth!
Update: One peony has now died. Still no response, so I've referred to PayPal for refund. So far, no response from Primrose to PayPal either.
Last post- PayPal found in my favour and I received a full refund. Around a week later I had an email from Primrose to say my comments would be passed to their head nurseryman. If Primrose had been proactive in answering my complaint, it would not have cost them a full refund.

These are supposedly 50cm high as the description said when I bought them and good root. Not worth £150!!!! Not worth waiting nearly 2 years for!!! Buy from b&m or a cheap shop and save your time and money.
They ignored me forever too having already taken my money.
Disappointed is an understatement!!!!!.
Not worth 1 star. As I see other reviews many are also ripped off and dissatisfied.
Update!!!!! One of my peonies that’s on a 20inch stick has a flower on it now and instead of double pink it’s bright red!!!!!!!
The other peonie is dead.
Couldn’t even send the correct plant I paid for!!!!!!!
Beware if it’s not the height age or flowering to see the colour you paid for then avoid!.

We ordered and paid for 2 tree peonies in Feb 2021 . They were £75 each and were on a delivery date of May/June that year . Right at the end of July my Shunkoju arrived, it was only 10 cm tall , was very dry and had 3 leaves on it , it was in a damaged box with a delivery note saying both plants had been delivered but the driver said there was only this one item for me . I contacted Primrose Hall immediately and was told the Chojuraku would arrive 2 weeks later. Since then I’ve emailed their customer services department 17 times initially to get the plant sent but for the last 10 months trying to get a refund . Despite the fact that they respond to emails I still have no plant and no refund 2 years on. The plant I have got is a very feeble tiny specimen which has never developed into the healthy vibrant tree peony I expected for £75 and certainly wasn’t at “flowering maturity” as advertised on their website. It’s now looking like I will have to go through small claims to get a refund . What a disgrace of a company , I would recommend steering well clear of them.
In case Primrose Hall wishes to reply to this review , our order number is PH20796 and it was ordered by Jane Shaw .
