I really enjoyed the One Day Intensive course with Richard and Julia as we learnt all about neon (history, manufacture, installation etc) in the morning and then, in the afternoon, we saw our designs come to life in front of our eyes. I’m really delighted with the neon barge I went home with and can’t wait to get it up on the wall. A great day that I would strongly recommend.

I thought the workshop was absolutely brilliant. As well as clearly explaining the science and design principals of neon Richard gave us an amazing insight into the history of the medium and its potential. It was surprising and fascinating.
I came away with an awesome abstract helium filled squiggle that we made to fit exactly into my unused fireplace. Incredibly satisfying!

I love the Neon Workshops and would recommend Richard and his team to anyone with an interest in neon that would like to know more about it. Any artists or designers looking to incorporate neon into their practice will benefit enormously from attending.

If you haven't been Wakefield also has the Hepworth museum which is definitely worth a visit if you have time.

My husband Lee and I attended a 2.5 hour Neon workshop yesterday. It was really interesting not only learning about how to make neon lighting ourselves but all about the history as well. The whole party was fully engaged and we all got plenty of practical experience which was well delivered by Richard and his female assistant.
Thanks for a great evening. We will definitely be booking up for another course.

Brilliant day with Richard and Julia at Neon Workshops on the One Day Intensive. Fascinating insight into both the history of neon and the process of creating it. The course was a good price and we were a nice small group, amazing to go home with a working neon I had designed in the day. We were all well looked after throughout the day with hot drinks and great recommendations for lunch too.

My wife bought us both vouchers for a 2.5 hour Taster Session for Christmas via an offer from Amazon Local. Booking our session was straightforward and hassle free, and Neon Workshops was easy to find - just a few minutes walk from Wakefield town centre, and just round the corner from a reasonably priced pay-and-display car park.

We really enjoyed the session, which was partly a talk about the history and theory of neon lighting, partly a demonstration of all aspects of neon light creation, and partly hands-on experience of working with the glass tubing. We learned lots, had fun bending glass into weird and wonderful shapes, and even won a piece of finished neon to take home.

All the staff we met were very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. We were really glad we went, thought is was good value for money, and we’d certainly be happy to recommend Neon Workshops to anyone.

Thanks for a great day. I bought a 2.5 hour intro session for my sister and I for Christmas. Great bit of background to Neon history to start with, followed by lots of fun hands-on stages showing different techniques. We loved it, and have a much greater appreciation for Neon artwork now. Who knew such a gem was right on our doorstep?! We're seriously considering attending a full day Neon session now.

I visited the workshop at the beginning of February with my son. Had a great time found everything very informative and interesting. We both enjoyed the practical bits and we were made to feel very welcome by all the members of staff that were present. The group sizing was excellent to enable everybody to get a good view of the workshop and also to enable any questions to be answered. We thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and would recommend it to all ages.

Neon Workshops is a brilliant resource for anyone who wants to tryout making work in neon. I took part in the one day intro and have since hired the workshop to make my own neons. The team running it have been great, a nice bunch to work around and incredibly helpful with my queries and any problems I come up against while learning the craft. They are clearly very dedicated to the workshop and very much want to share the their knowledge. As I don't live in the area, it's been a nice thing to do when I can get a few days away. I would recommend this course for all who are simply curious and for those who want to take their making skills further. 5 stars!
