This is a really nice National Trust, very interesting to learn more about Rudyard Kipling and inspiration and such for the Jungle Book. The house is not that big, but there is lots to see. The grounds are also beautiful, and lots of space to enjoy a picnic and to walk around. You can also walk down to the water mill, which also is very interesting and has some hands on areas. The cafe is also very nice with some indoor and some courtyard seating. There is also a second hand bookshop with lots of choice and a nice gift shop also.

A fine looking house from the outside and fascinating inside. As well as the history of the house it was also the home of Rudyard Kipling. Learn all about him and his life , the room guides are full of knowledge and stories so please talk to them. Fine gardens too and don't miss the Rolls-Royce in the garage. Also a mill at bottom of garden.Cafe and toilets on site. Excellent day out.

Interesting and beautiful property. The day we visited, there was a concert band playing in the courtyard by the cafe. It was so lovely when they played songs from Disney's jungle book. It felt very special being in Rudyard Kipping's garden listening to that.

The house is well kept and there were knowledgeable volunteers in every room to regale visitors with interesting stories of the house.

Spent my mum's 80th birthday here visiting the house, gardens, mill, shop and café. We really enjoyed our day. Some stunning views and a perfect place for a spring walk. Burwash is a lovely village and close to many other interesting sites. Very interesting listening to the staff explain the history of the house and imagining how many different families must have lived there.

We spent an afternoon there on a glorious sunny day. Our border collie loved the long (well marked) ‘Pucks’ walk through woods and meadows. The gardens an cafe were a delight and we were warmly welcomed on our arrival.

A beautiful national trust. The volunteers were so informative in the house and it was wonderful to see all the original furniture and decoration. The gardens are wonderful - the actual gardens themselves aren't the biggest vs other national trusts but there is plenty of land outside of the landscaped gardens to peruse. Probably one of our favorites to visit

I enjoyed visiting Batemans more than I thought I was going to. The house is well worth viewing, the gardens are beautiful and sitting by them whilst savouring the delights of the cafe are not to be missed. Don't forget the mill, which is enchanting.
