We've had an amazing evening wine tasting at Mayfield Vineyard. Definitely our kind of place as they put the environment front and centre of their business

The wines we tried were served in VERY generous measures and were all lovely. Created using the most natural methods possible but still maintaining a consistency across harvests

Definitely somewhere we've now got firmly on our radar for both a place to take visitors and somewhere to buy great wines

Booked to take my daughter wine tasting. Superb. Would highly recommend. Wines were really good (actually probably the best I have tried!) We had a great time. Learned quite a lot from the event but with good humour in a welcoming environment.

My daughter and son-in-law bought me this wine tasting experience for my Christmas present and chose this particular vineyard because they were both impressed with the conservation ethos as well as the delicious wine they sampled at Stamford food festival. After attending the afternoon in June, I was very impressed with Fraser’s story of how he came to grow Mayfield vineyard on his farm, the biodiverse way in which the delicious wine is produced and how his ethos has reduced his carbon footprint! His passion showed through his presentation and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I have a special affinity with owls so was fascinated to hear how the wines are named after all the species of owl that Fraser had encouraged to live around this beautiful ecosystem. It was a shear pleasure listening to the sounds of nature right next to this traditional English vineyard in the afternoon sunshine!
Fraser’s colleague, Tracy, contributed fabulously to our relaxed, chilled and informal experience. We had a great time and will definitely return. Thank you both 😉

We booked on a wine tasting experience at Mayfield Vineyard, after my husband met Fraser at a food market in Stamford (incredible salesman!) We were delighted by the taste of the wine and the lovely story behind the vineyard; each wine is named after an Owl that is encouraged to come back and make it their home. We knew the wine would exceed expectations and although the typical British weather wasn’t the best, the experience of the tasting was brilliant. The pace was lovely and relaxed, the pours were generous and it was a really enjoyable afternoon. Fraser’s colleague Tracy became my
Mums new best friend and we had such a laugh as well as learning a lot about the wine, eco-systems and methods behind different flavours of various wines. Will 100% be booking another experience and can’t thank Fraser and Tracy enough for the communication leading up to the experience and during! Can I pre book for next year please…

Inadequate preparation, too much irrelevant talking and too slow pouring.

Mayfield Vineyard is not particularly easy to locate, they do send an ariel shot with their confirmation email, but that’s only useful if you are arriving by helicopter. There is zero signage, amazing!

The wine is served from a converted horse box, but we go the impression that after the last tasting, the horse box was shut up and Fraser & co went home. As we arrived, just in time due to difficulty in finding the place, Fraser was busy washing up the champagne flutes, then he stood with the bottle in his hand talking and talking. All 18 of us tasters were wondering when he was going to actually pour anything from the bottle.

To our amazement the other 4 people at our table smoked continuously throughout the event. Even though they were vaping, it is generally considered as bad as smoking cigarettes. As they were there when we arrived, we assumed they’d asked permission, they certainly didn’t ask us if we minded. Later when I emailed Wayfield about this Tracie responded by saying she didn’t notice!!! What?

Our white wine glasses, which arrived next were still wet. Fraser continued with his talking, some of it completely irrelevant. I really don’t need to know about the owls’ food chain, or the local eco system.

I don’t know where Fraser gets his information from, but whilst he was talking about the alcohol content, he said that it had gotten so hot in France that the alcohol content in French wine is ridiculously high. We have lived in France for the last 20 years, there has been no increase in the alcohol content in French wine.

At one point Fraser asked his audience if anyone had any allergies, a young lady at another table said that she was allergic to honey. Fraser said “But honey is just sugar, you can’t be allergic to sugar!” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, was he really calling her a liar? The young lady went on to explain that a bee sting, or some consumed honey would land her in hospital.

Later his assistant, Tracie was wondering around with a bag of crackers, so I asked if I could have some. But as she handed me the bag under the table, she said that she had brought them out at the wrong time. Do they not have a routine?

The tasting was supposed to be 2 hours long, it started at 2pm and we had to be home by 5pm. But Fraser talked so much and took so long to pour anything that at 4.20pm we said that we would have to leave. There was still another wine to be tasted, but it was just dragging on way too long.

We won’t be rushing back to Mayfield unless Fraser learns to just talk about the wine, concisely.
