Absolutely love the yard! Best place in the world. Karen is the best yard owner and has done so much for my horse and the others on the yard. The yard owner is so brilliant, putting on shows and little events for bonfire night and Christmas. Iv loved my 2 years here and cant wait for many more years and memories 🥰Everyone on the yard is wonderful and we all get along. My horse is also treated with 5* care and Karen put in her best efforts to try and accommodate everyone.

I moved my young horse Molly onto Houghs over a year and a half ago. It is the best decision I could have made! We are both so happy here. The facilities are fantastic, both horses and owners are spoilt rotten, wanting for nothing. Karen the yard owner is such a wonderful woman, So approachable and kind, she always put the horses safety above all else and cares for each one as if her own. Going out of her way to make sure all of the horses and owners are happy. For example, I spoke to Karen asking if Molly could live out in a bigger herd this summer and she was more than happy (with the other owners consent) to organise a bigger field and introduce other horses. Karen personally oversaw all introductions checking all went well and all of the horses were safe and happy.
Stephen the yard manager is amazing with all of the horses again treating them as if they were his own. I have Molly on cover a few days every week whilst at work and she absolutely loves Stephen.... That tells me all I need to know about how well they look after her.
Before arriving at Houghs I had always been very anxious about Molly and constantly worried about if she was getting looked after when she was on cover at other Yards. I no longer have any of that worry or anxiety. From the day we arrived Molly has been the happiest and most settled horse... I can leave her on cover whilst working or on holiday and I know she will be loved and looked after, so much so she doesn't even miss me 🤣.
Also the other liveries are all lovely, Every one a horse lover. It's a very friendly yard family with absolutely no nastiness or judgement just a supportive happy place...... I couldn't ask for any more. Couldn't recommend it any higher!!!!! ❤️

Horsey heaven!! Wow what a fantastic yard ran by amazing owners that treat every horse as their own! I have had my 3 horses here for 18 months now and I couldn’t be any happier. Karen and her team are always on hand to make sure your horse has the best and to make our life as liveries as easy as it can be. They go above and beyond! My youngest horse is only 4 and I hope this will be where he retires in his old age too.

My horses have been on this yard for many years, both horses have had their issues and the support I have received from Karen has been next to none. My horses are happy, content, given the best care and are living their best lives. Not only do the horses receive 5 star care so too do we the liveries. Karen also provides fantastic events throughout the year that we enjoy taking part in as a yard family. I could not ask for a better yard for my horses and my family to be part of.

Been at houghs for 18 months and can honestly say that it’s the best yard ever! All horses are happy and are living a life of luxury. The yard management are so passionate and each horses well being is always their top priority. Everyone on the yard is lovely and supportive of each other. Honestly wouldn’t want to keep them anywhere else!

From the onset, the yard looks nice, good facilities and clean that is until you find out it is run like a military base constant messages to tidy, clean up with pictures to name and shame.
We were told any problems with horses not getting on could be sorted and horses were horses and there were options. This is not the case. Our small 14.2 pony  was put in a pen with a big shod horse and we were told she was fine. I arrived to hear her screaming after being kicked in the shoulder..we asked for her to be taken out of the pen as too small for her to get away..this was done only to be re introduced to same horse in spring that continued kicking out and herding her in a big field. The yard manager and owner were prepared to do nothing.

As well as kicking us..we were unable to go near our pony in the field as this made her worse.  When we asked for the field to be split, I was told I was blinded by love for my horse and they needed to learn  to live harmoniously.
We are now left with a vet bill for getting a haematoma drained and have moved our horse to safety on another yard.
Such a shame as the liveries on the yard are lovely all be it, scared to say anything to upset the owner for fear of a long winded essay, as told by people on the yard when we were there and I was getting upset by the bullying. We know we aren't alone ..  we have since found out, many others have left Houghs due to bullying from Karen the owner.
After almost 6 months of leaving we are still finding out that a grown adult is slagging off a young girl and a pony, making my horse out to be the devil to cover her own back in a situation she caused that resulted in my horse needing veterinary treatment.
She is a disgrace be warned.

Absolutely amazing yard with top class facilities. A lovely friendly atmosphere on the yard with amazing owners who will go above and beyond to make sure your horses needs are met. I brought my gelding to Oakenshaw after he had been bullied and kicked to death. He settled straight in and now he’s the most chilled out horse ever, he’s never been as happy and settled as he is at Oakenshaw. He truly loves his home. I would highly recommend this yard to others.
