Been a good customer for over 20 year paul on new orders was most unhelpful and was told he was. Time to move to a more professional paint supplier. Hmg a total waste of time.

Such an amazing company. HMG helped us around 3 years ago where they donated paint to our homeless hostel and even did a collection for clothes for our gentlemen.
I contacted HMG last week to see if there was any possibility they could help us out again by donating paint for our gentlemen to start life skills activities and once again HMG went above and beyond to not only donate the paints but also rushed our order through.

I had some difficulties about 2 years ago matching some paint for my kitchen units . I tried all over South Yorkshire to source the colour but finally ended up contacting HMG . I sent a small piece of painted wood which I believe they tested and they then sent me the price for the replacement paint . I ordered the paint ( 2 tins , just in case ) and the match is perfect . I am deeply grateful to HMG for getting me out of a hole , as I say the colour match is perfect , the person I dealt with was fantastic and I would highly recommend the company for both its products and customer service - thank

Sorry about the negative comments but after speaking with someone about coatings and after placing a small order, I decided to pick-up from the trade counter. I visited along with my money hoping to be able to take a closer look at colour samples etc. I have a particular coating requirement that I hoped to ask about while there but I soon realised this just wasn't going to happen. I was disappointed when entering the 'trade counter', which was like something from the 1960s - a dimly lit corner of an old factory, with a few cans of random overstock paint stacked-up on a scruffy counter at knock-down prices. Nothing else on display, nothing to say what the company does at all. This a missed opportunity. For a modest investment, this place could be transformed into a something more in keeping with the 21st century, staffed by people you can ask for advice. My visit was completed when I was eventually presented with my purchase in a really dirty old box (I'm not that bothered but it added to the experience). I paid for 2kg but the warehouse lad said I only paid for 1kg but in any case, the box only contained 1.3kg. I'm sure I paid for 2kg - at least I wasn't asked to pay extra. Really, I only ever wanted a sample size for evaluation. The young lady who served me was very friendly though. I'm not knocking the paints, I'm sure they are world-class - just the visitor experience. If you work there, you probably just don't notice it - but to new eyes, it just doesn't look good at all, with little or no opportunity to spend more while there.

Looking at another review which is very negative, it's clear the author was looking for freebies and is scathing that this is not how hmg operate. You should have told him b&q is only a mile or so away!
I am very proud of this company as I remember them developing byotrol - an MRSA resistant finish paint.
Having worked on wards with MRSA I know what a nightmare it was posing.
I know byotrol was developed by accident but still. I'm very impressed with the firm, hidden away on redbank in a forgotten and quite unloved part of Manchester. (hopefully not unloved for much longer.

I am a trader and was looking for some information regarding sample books interior design paints and prices etc and I got put through the sales team. Absolute useless customer service!!!! Didn’t answer my questions made me feel like just hanging up which I did. I am a potential customer and I have just turned away within minutes!! The man kept referring to dulux why would you even mention dulux to me 5 times when I’ve clearly called you guys to potentially do business with you, and just kept telling me to go on the website. Will not recommend this business at all!! I am a trader with potential customers but not anymore. Looks like I will have to call dulux and give them business instead lol
