Helmsley Castle is a great day out for a family. Staff were wonderfully friendly when we arrived. We offered audio guides, which were a great addition to our trip around the site. It was really informative. There wasn’t anywhere onsite for toilet or food (that I saw) but plenty of places nearby in Helmsley. Parking was not an English Heritage parking site, so there are charges. But, overall, a great day out!

Came here on a spur of the moment visit whilst passing through. No problem parking and English Heritage usually has a decent shop...The ruins were everything I like to expect for a reasonable price without the yearly pass. My 14 year old son used the tourist speaker and my 17 year old daughter was distracted for a little while before we walked into the village which was very pretty. Another attraction ticked off my list. It would have been better without the children but that is my fault, not English Heritage 🤣

Lovely ruin to look around it's very deceiving from the bottom off the hill just looks like 1 tower but there is much more when you get up there, definitely recommend a visit, think entry was around £11 but we are Heritage members so was free, definitely take a walk into the town after is beautiful.

A very large castle that Oliver Cromwell partly demolished but thankfully some survived. Interesting history and how the castle was part of Helmsley and surrounding areas.

There is an inside exhibition and preserved Tudor interior which was good to see.

Car parking next to the castle on Cleveland St pay and display.

Great gift shop and very polite staff.

Could suggest some cycle frames / parking outside the shop. We had to lock ours to a drain pipe which was not ideal.

Would recommend a visit.

I visited Helmsley Castle first thing on a Monday morning in term time - it was a beautiful day and there was hardly anyone about so I was lucky enough to pretty much have the place to myself. A lovely ruin with some intact buildings - definitely go for the audio guide, it really brings the castle to life and tells it's story. The staff were very welcoming and it's right in the town centre so plenty of places to eat or have a drink and plenty of parking nearby - well worth a visit
