Located just off the A606 Nottingham to Melton road, and in a very scenic spot, Harker’s Farm Shop offers a great choice of fresh produce, along with an excellent range wines and beers and soft drinks etc. We visited yesterday lunchtime and were both highly impressed with the polite and attentive service we received. They even leave a selection of free of charge cardboard boxes at the front of the shop for you to carry your goods to your car. We bought several items from the butchery section which have all turned out to be excellent- the Welsh Dragon sausages are particularly delicious. The fresh strawberries we bought were absolutely delicious and full of flavour, too. For the first class service and delicious provisions they offer, we thought they were very fair on price also. Parking facilities directly outside the shop are also very good and well laid out. Based on our experience yesterday, I have no hesitation in rating Harker’s Farm Shop at five stars, and highly recommend them to others.

They offer a unique experience, providing fresh, locally sourced produce and a connection to the land. The charm of browsing through rows of fresh vegetables, artisanal products, and homemade treats is a refreshing change of pace.

Sadly our local butcher retired & closed shop a year ago & finding a similar quality/tasting sausage has been our mission since then.
Yesterday, from the depths of Derbyshire, we travelled to a cheese shop for some festive fromage & on our way we came across Harkers. Well we’re frequent flyers on the farm shop front so on our return & with the Stilton safely loaded, we stopped at Harkers to peruse their fine goods. I had to stay outside with our puppy but sent hubby in solo rather reluctantly because he has a tendency to ‘over cater’!
Anyway, he bought some farmhouse sausage which we’ve had tonight. We can honestly say that it was absolutely delicious & probably the best sausage we’ve ever had! It was succulent & full of quality porky, herbyness an absolute treat!
Needless to say we’ll be returning to stock up our freezer! Merry Christmas!

First time shopper. This looks amazing. Just picked up two very nice sirloin steaks for tea, some streaky bacon for a breakfast sarnie, and a bunch of the biggest radishes you ever did see. And its less than 5 miles away. We'll be back.

Had some sausages from here the other day and they were the most delicious sausages I believe I've ever had. Great staff, reasonably priced, large selection and top quality produce. I'll be back (bacon). 5 stars ?

PLEASE NOTE - THIS REVIEW IS OVER 3 YEARS OLD. Produce available is the usual farm shop 'high end' stuff with a generally premium price range. Produce is good quality and fresh.

BUT BUT BUT . . . . . . The shop is somewhat disorganised and potentially not COVID safe.

While there's a one-in-one out policy, the queueing inside the shop to get to the butchery counter (also where all purchases are paid for) is disorganised and there is a bottle-neck at the counter for either butchery products or just to pay for stuff collected elsewhere in the shop. A total lack of clarity.

It is essential that a second till is installed for pre-pack items, or a fast track for payment only. More thought is needed, but comments elicited a 'fob-off'. The floor manager seemed to suggest that they were not going to change it because . . . . [See below]

Most traders now have one way systems, hand-held pay point devices and a better organization of their shops. Harkers clearly need to do better: the shop is potentially 'unsafe': it is definitely crowded and there are unnecessary and inadvisable bottle-necks.

Putting all of the check-out options at the butchery counter is pretty unacceptable in the present circumstances.

Logistical improvements are essential.

Reply from Harkers includes this (about a fast track checkout).

" in our opinion, just would not work "

To be brutally frank, that is blinkered and total rubbish. It works elsewhere . . owners should take a trip to some other local retailers as see. Of course it would work, they are not mutually exclusive approaches. It is unacceptable for the butchery counter to also be the main checkout.

The congestion in the shop must be reduced . . . that is common sense if the owners just step back and do a walk-through in place of a customer.

I have worked in retail for 20 years and do know what I am talking about. This isn't the place for a free consultancy.
