The food scene in York is very small compared to other cities, like Manchester.

But in spite of this, I think that York offers a consistently high standard of eateries.

And sitting amongst the pinnacle of these is the absolute gem that is Flori Bakery.

Residing just off Bishy Road, Flori is easily the best bakery I have ever been to.

Last summer, I spent many weekends eyeing the spectacular pastries on their countertop.

They offer a seasonal array of gastronomic wonders that differ from day to day.

It can vary. One day, they'll serve vanilla custard and strawberry filled Danish pastries.

And then the next day, you could be surprised by ham, cheese, and mustard rolls.

However, it won't shock anyone who's read my previous reviews to know I love a classic.

So, whilst my personal recommendations to anyone reading this may seem beige...

I would implore you to experiment with some of Flori's more outlandish offerings.

My recommendations to you are...

1) The Cinnamon Bun - Sweet and sticky, but with a subtle, warm kick of spice.

2) The Cardamon Bun - Dense, doughy, and perfect when accompanied by a coffee.

3) The Croissants - They're flawlessly laminated slices of flaky perfection.

If you're in York, and you feel like treating someone, fetch them a Flori pastry.

You'll be their favourite personal all week. I can guarantee it.

Fabulous experience at this bakery. We tried an asparagus flaky pastry which was incredible the pastry is flaked in multiple thin layers & is probably the best we have ever tasted. The barista cappuccino was amazing and when I enquired about the taste the member of staff advised me that the milk they use is naturally produced on a local farm in Elvington.

This is the type of innovation I look for in a bakery- a blend of traditional and creativity. You got your staple croissants, pain au chocolate, ham n cheese, etc but then a cardamom bun?! Maple and bacon?! Mushroom and lentil?! Apple jam, cinnamon custard, and almonds! This place raised the bar for bakery goods everywhere! I can only hope to find a place like this in my home city.

Bought a creamy cake with strawbs on top on my way home on Sunday and shared it with my daughter ( the only food we shared all day )
We have both been sick in the night. The cream filled pastries just sit on the same racks as the croissants by an open door and exposed to all the customers/ staff..should they not be refridgerated/ covered?
Annoyingly my daughter works as a waitress so now cannot work for 24 hours.
Please address basic hygiene standards, I am not the first person to mention this issue here.

Why would you get your pastries from anywhere else?! Unbelievable! No words can describe the quality and sensational taste...just go...you will not be disappointed! A piece of advice, whatever you buy, make sure you add on a cookie too, you do not want to miss out on the cookies! Best I have ever tasted!
