Drove half an hour at Christmas to buy braising steak from this highly regarded butcher. The stuff they sold me was disgusting - almost all gristle. I cooked it for hours but had to discard it and rush out on Christmas Eve to buy replacement meat from Tesco.

I was offered a refund and a chance to try their meat again by email from Debbie Edge but when I went back to the shop, (another hour long round trip drive,) I was told that "we usually either refund or replace but not both". Interesting that they have to do this on such a regular basis that they have a policy in place!

I got my money back but had a lot of hassle and didn't appreciate the unfriendly reception from Callum Edge that made me feel that it was my fault for complaining.

Not the sort of service you expect from a former butcher of the year and, in my opinion, a butcher to be avoided ?

Im no vegan but its disgusting & too public esp for kids to see a supplier or their own staff cutting the head of a full bodied pig hanging in a van exposed outside yesterday at 10am in morning. Come on , the streets not a slaughter house lads !!

A visit to Mr Edge’s butchers is top of my list when visiting Chester. My go-to favourite butcher with the best quality produce most of which is locally sourced, a beautifully traditional family run business with knowledge and skill passed down through generations. They are just the most lovely people and it’s always a pleasure for me to drop by and stock up my freezer with their beautiful meats. Thank you Mr Edge and your team for the service you provide.

Fantastic butcher, we’ve had a huge turkey from them this Christmas and last. All of our guests commented on the high quality and amazing taste. So we’ve just been back and bought a large rib-eye joint and a chicken for our New Year’s Eve party. Our go-to butcher from now on!

Wow, what a find ! Recommended by a friend, this is a cut above the normal. All high quality meat, not expensive and I now understand why they have such a strong following. Staff super helpful too with time to advise and provide what ever. There is also a nice deli next door, free carpark across the road behind Iceland.

Just bought two rare breed sirloin steaks from Edge & Son's DeliFonseca location, and what can I say? That was perhaps the best sirloin I've ever tasted. Absolutely fab.

Excellent butchers, good quality meat, friendly staff who can help with everything you need to know, they've won several awards over the years. Their steak is excellent and their own black pudding is wonderful. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for, well worth and try
