It was getting near our lunchtime as we were driving North and thought we would stop off at Dobbies as they used to do a lovely pick and choose salad. Big mistake. It's also not the easiest place to get to off the dual carriageway but thought it worthwhile. The sign for it at the traffic lights is almost obliterated by a large bush which I thought might have been an idea to cut back as a gesture to those responsible? Parking our car I was amazed at the pedestrian crossings leading to the store and how they were almost non existent (see photos). Finally, getting to the restaurant, there were no salads to be seen. Only the usual that you get in many food places now: sausages, lasagne, chips etc. It was time to leave and sadly will bypass this garden centre in future without a purchase. Many garden centres across the UK need to get customers over their threshold for more than garden equipment 😪

Dobbies Perth was an amazing shopping experience yesterday thanks to all the helpful, friendly staff who knew the products and could therefore give good advice. All the staff were wonderful but I have to give Ewan in the outdoor garden section a mention. He was amazing, especially helping with moving a selection of large, heavy plant pots off the pallets so I could choose which ones I wanted. He was so patient and cheery. I'm new to the area and I will certainly shop here again. Thank you all for a wonderful shopping experience, such a comfort in these trying times.

The veggie breakfast was inedible-hash browns tasted very sweet and over cooked, sausages also seemed very sweet. Stone cold toast. Coffee out the machine was also cold! Friend had to ask for a hot one. Worst breakfast I’ve ever had.

2025 27th February morning and again on, return home Sunday evening 2nd March.
Our coach trip with Maymes holidays stop over we visited the cafeteria both times.
The venue was very clean pleasant staff.
The manager Callum mix in several areas cheerily. We also saw staff were plesenty happy any time they needed to approach him. The food was good with an excellent choice of temptation of bakery and desserts. (At last I was able to get treacle scone).
Toilet facilities very clean.

We did get what we came for, a very big planter. Other than that, two hints to Dobbies. 1. Shopping carts and baskets should be scattered around the place, not just at the front door where there were just a handful of them. Like you find yellow bags all over IKEA. 2. The prices should be clearly visible. For the planter a staff member had to zap the bar code on the bottom of the planter.

Your average Dobbies garden centre, fairly big with a second level although unsure if the second level is accessible by lift (assume so but I didn’t notice one). Decent reductions post-Christmas, cafe is alright although my coffee cup wasn’t full? I know that’s an odd complaint but usually with the froth it reaches the top, it’s the first time I’ve had coffee from somewhere where I questioned if someone had already been drinking it. Many stars given for the lovely fish.

We had a booking for 15.20 on Christmas Eve to see Santa, by which point, every member of staff we encountered in the store (minus the absolutely fantastic girl dressed as the elf “mrs grinch”) absolutely could not be bothered with us being there. My son is 5 years old and was beyond excited at the thought of meeting Santa on Christmas Eve and already we had the impression that everyone was unhappy to be there. “Shy Max” was so awkward with us that it made everyone extremely uncomfortable.
We tried our best to keep the excitement going for our children and “Mrs Grinch” told us Santa was ready. We come round the corner to a young boy/man in a terrible Santa suit, trainers, and his beard half hanging off so my son could fully see his 20-odd-year-old face.
The interaction with my son especially (my daughter is only 1) was absolutely dreadful.
We left after approximately 3 minutes and my son looked like he was going to burst into tears and said “well that obviously wasn’t the real Santa mummy, he wasn’t jolly or friendly”.
We paid £12.99 per child and my daughter received a soft toy so tiny it fits in the palm of her hand.
It completely ruined the magic of what should have been such a special day for my children.
The cafe staff has terrible customer service too and again, obviously couldn’t wait to get us out and get finished. I get it’s Christmas Eve but it’s 3.30pm and you’re being paid to be there.
Overall, an absolutely awful experience and I’m devastated to have spent this much money on something that ruined the magic of Santa for my children.
