Recently moved to Durham City and despaired of finding a proper butcher, until I went to Esh Winning and Deerness Valley Meats. It was the only place I found which had a large joint of beef on the bone, and was given lots of advice on how to prepare and carve it. Great choices, smashing friendly staff, I will be back.

Proper traditional village butcher. Mainly go for the sausages and burgers but everything is great, they do some lovely prepared food like stir fries. Friendly, helpful staff and reasonable prices.

Brilliant display of quality meat and meat products. Staff very obliging. I required two rump steaks cutting into strips for a stroganoff and they were only too happy to do it for me.
