We visit Cranston’s as often as we can and always look forward to going.
I’ll not get Cumberland sausage anywhere else and I love their small ones they do to.
Their lamb and mint burgers are lovely as are their pastries, nice sausage rolls with lots of sausage and a thin layer of pastry. I always like to get a spiced potato pie and we had the turkey dinner pie before Christmas which was lovely.
All the staff are helpful and friendly too.

We have a caravan in Alston. We were at Hexham for a look around. We come upon this shop. My husband went in for some Blackpudding.
It was very good. It's taste was like good old butcher's. We will go here again. 100 out of 100 for this little gem of a shop.

Was shocked and incredibly saddened to learn that Cranston's chicken products are from a factory farm in Penrith, and their pork products are from indoor reared pigs, both of which are the cruelest way to produce meat/poultry and not what I'd expect from a farm shop/local butcher. Never shopping there again.

Was on holiday near their Penrith shop, this sells quality meat,bought £80 worth of sausage bacon and burgers. Also pies sausage rolls and other cooked products. As others have said you pay a bit more but if you want the best you expect that. Going to the Hexham shop to stock up as its not too far from Newcastle wear I live. You won't be disappointed.

We went here on Thursday 21st September after being recommended. The Beef & Cheese burgers were amazing. Their pies Chicken & Ham, Minced Beef and their Small and Dinky Pork pies were delicious. We drove from Newcastle to try the shop, and we were not disappointed. The products were on the pricier side but were all great quality. Highly recommended. We will definitely be going back as a treat.

Produce was first class prices a little high but you don't mind if you get the quality.
However really disappointed with the customer service. There was so much produce but I was hurried in and out of the shop, by not one, but three members of staff.
It's a shame really because I could have easy spent £60 instead of £30.

Proper food, locally sourced.
Yes, it may be a bit expensive compared to supermarkets but here you are buying proper food, not pre-packaged processed filth.
Every time I'm in Hexham I make a point of buying something from Cranstons (usually sausages or chicken) and when I eat it I can definitely taste the difference, hence the 5 stars.
Every town and village should have a similar outlet for proper food.
