As a life long cheese lover and someone who has eaten many different variety of cheeses from all over the world, I have always, always, always come back to Stilton as my favourite which truly is the real king of cheeses. As for the best stilton, Colston Basset, for me is miles ahead of any other Stilton from the area. It’s so creamy and full of flavour, especially during the winter months which uses the milk from the autumn months which is when it’s at its best. The little shop on site is wonderful and a great place to find out more about the Stilton.

Visited the shop with my Napolitan other half. He didn't know what to expect from sitting and was very impressed.

We bought armfuls of Shropshire blue and Stilton due ourselves and friends.

The cheese is stupendous.

The best Stilton IMHO and perfect for anytime of the year - not just at Christmas.

The shop, however, could be much easier to navigate.

Firstly, they should have the per Kg cost of the cheese clearly displayed in the shop.

They were only selling two types of cheese when I was there so two simple signs would do it.

Everyone in the queue I was in was asking how much is it? Simple signage answers those questions.

Secondly, the sizing of the cheese makes perfect sense to the cheese maker and no sense to the purchaser. The “whole one” is in fact half a one, the half is a quarter and the quarter is an eighth. Confused? Most customers are. So either change it so it is simpler for the customer I.e. a whole to the customer is a half to the cheese maker or put several of the size charts up in the shop, on the outside wall and in the window. Currently there is one chart that lays flat on the counter. Again that provokes lots of questions, lots of mistakes, lots of frustrations as customers take time to make up their minds and a long drawn out process for buying a simple product.

IMHO they should have a fixed price for each size of cheese. Sell it per piece rather than by weight. Quick, simple and easy to understand. Saves weighing every piece which takes so much time and necessitates a calculation - which the customer cannot see or ever check.

Finally, buying your Christmas cheese is a happy time. I spent £86 on cheese. A smile (nope), a thank you (yep) and a “Merry Christmas” (nope) would make us love you even more.

Great little shop to buy the best Stilton straight from the dairy. Just watch out for lunchtime closing. Good Covid rules being applied, queuing outside only one person in the shop. I often buy my Stilton when I'm passing.
