I walked in the cafe and knew I instantly that the food here is cooked with love and I am going to love it. The Ginger Cake was so moist and yum! And the coffee, brewed to perfection. The cheese scone was light. I loved the decor and the service was impeccable. You have to try this cafe when you are in the town!

I had a fantastic lunch here. Although I initially hoped for a quiche, there was no vegetarian option, so we opted for sandwiches instead, not expecting much but they then offered to toast them, which was a nice surprise. When we ordered coffee, they asked how strong we preferred it—a thoughtful touch. The food arrived beautifully presented, accompanied by a fresh salad and plenty of condiments. The service was exceptional, and the meal was both delicious and reasonably priced. Just take a look at the photos!!

We did a long walk from the Abbey to get to town and then randomly walked around until we found somewhere that looked nice to eat (there are many places in town but the menu here is what appealed to us)

Nicely decorated small cafe.
Varied menu (and all the food we saw going past us looked very nice)

I got the beef burger with cheese. The beef had a nice taste and was cooked nicely. Came with a ridiculously large amount of cheese (which was very messy to eat, but also very welcome!) in a lovely fresh brioche bun.
Came with plenty of well cooked thick chips and lots of fresh salad/coleslaw.

My wife got the lemon berry sundae. Also a large portion (never an issue with ice cream!) and had lovely lemon curd ice cream as well as strawberry ice cream. With plenty of raspberry coulis and some wafers.

Prices were good (especially for the portion sizes) and the staff were really nice and friendly.

They had a good looking selection of cakes and other treats, but by the time we'd eaten our food there was no room left for anything else!

Would highly recommend this place.

Lunch with family who had not visited Helmsley before. Cafe was warm and welcoming and there is plenty to choose from. Three Cumberland sausage baguettes with fried onions, salad, coleslaw and crisps were excellent, tasty and good value. Grandson had the steak burger which was pure meat and went down very quickly.Ham and cheese baguette was also good quality and tasty. Thank you for a lovely lunch we will return.

We had our first trip to Helmsley on Saturday and we landed at lunchtime so food was first on the cards.

There’s loads of places to choose from so we fairly randomly picked the Cocoa Tree and luckily for us their one last table was available for us.

The fella working there (possibly the owner I think) was absolutely spot on. And he had the coffee skills to pay the bills. There’s a sign on display that said “Life is too short for bad coffee” and on seeing this I thought, that’s a good sign that the coffee will be good here. Indeed it was, I asked about a flat white and said I liked a shorter one, that tastes of good strong coffee, not a milk-fest, and I got one. While the wife got a regular flat white. So full marks so far. A coffee tailored to my tastes.

And onto the food. Again really very good. Toasties and a Cumberland sausage sandwich that looked so good. Whilst I got the ham salad which was delicious too. All good portions and good prices.

We will definitely return; full marks for charming service, attentiveness and great food.

Hubby and I popped in for a cuppa after doing a couple of local deliveries for our gallery.

I chose the spiced tea cake which was perfectly toasted and my pot of tea gave me two full cups which was perfect! A good amount of milk too - always welcome 🙂

Hubby had a large americano which came with a really good sized jug full of foamy hot milk! Perfect!

His choice for food was a home baked cheese scone which was deliciously light and flavoursome!

The cafe itself is clean and welcoming with friendly faces which is always nice 🙂

All this for under £12 for the both of us, great value 🙂

Lovely cafe amongst many others on the same street. However we searched for dog friendly cafes and the Cocoa Tree came up tops. A very pleasant lunch of burgers and baked potato with cheese and bacon. The dogs were very welcome in the cafe and were a talking point. Couldn't resist having some deserts but took them away for later. Would highly recommend this place especially if you can't find anywhere that welcomes dogs.
