Last Monday (Aug 12th 2024), I was disappointed to witness the woman working at the till say aloud, "You can't rely on a man to do it," when a male customer was unable to find a price on the item he wanted to purchase. The tone was frustrated rather than humorous, and the male customer was clearly taken aback by the comment (he even double-checked with me, and unfortunately, he hadn’t misheard). Her comment struck me as both unnecessary and sexist. Furthermore, after making the comment, the woman herself was also unsuccessful in finding the price tag.

The lack of a price tag on the item was clearly frustrating, however the way it was handled by the staff member was disgraceful. Comments like these not only reflect poorly on the individual but also on the shop as a whole. I hope that the staff member realises how inappropriate her remark was and how it detracts from the welcoming environment a charity shop should strive to maintain.

Unfortunately, I won’t be returning to this particular Cancer Research shop as long as this outdated and sexist behaviour persists. For those looking for alternative charity shops in the area, I highly recommend Thames Hospice and Helen & Douglas House on Duke Street. Both offer great finds and, in my experience, have wonderful staff who contribute to a positive shopping experience.

This is such a lovely little charity shop. The items are quality and it doesn’t have the usual charity shop “smell” to it. The staff are lovely too. I picked up some great bargains and I’m really happy.

This is my favourite shop in Henley, and Iv purchased lots and lots since moving here in 2015. The ladies are very nice. But I think the window dresser is amazing, the displays are always bright, vibrant, imaginative and always in keeping with the seasons. Can't rate it high enough.

Another worthwhile shop. I purchased 3 DVD box sets from a good selection in store, absolute bargain and I know the money is going to be used for a good purpose. Served by a very pleasant lady. I will visit again whilst I’m staying in Henley.
