Have not been here for a few years so we decided to have a drive out into the beautiful Durham countryside and follow the Road up to Broom House. I cycled this route on the Durham Beast a few years ago and it is much easier by car! We enjoyed a brunch of banana bread and mushrooms on toast with poached eggs. The presentation on the mushroom dish was particularly good but I thought the poached eggs could have been a bit better so 4 stars. My wife thought the compote with the banana bread was delicious. We also had a large pot of tea for two. The cafe is dog friendly and we would bring ours if he behaved himself better! Recommend a visit

Lovely food. However, the kitchen staff conversed VERY loudly, to the clear discomfort of several other guests, apart from our party. I got up twice to close the servers' door to the kitchen to dampen the noise.

My wife and I called in for lunch and can say it was beautiful , food was lovely , outside area is fab with plenty of room for little ones to play safely .
Also we visited the farm shop which is stocked with loads of goodies .
Would highly recommend.

So the quality of the food I had was a four verging on five - sausages and bacon were great quality. However arriving at 11.30 on a Saturday the menu is absolutely tiny 😅 unless you want cake or a child portion there’s only about 5 food options, brunch is over and lunch hasn’t started and with the prices and marketing they’re going for it was disappointing. If you go early or late or not on a Saturday food will be likely be on point.

Server very pleasant but the floor was filthy and table next to me full of dirty plates and glasses for a long time. Atmosphere as a solo eater was again just ok, didn’t feel overly uncomfortable but I was getting looks as I lingered over my drink (5 other tables free).

Would go back if in the area especially if going to the shop, but not an out the way spot.

We went here for breakfast.

We asked for water for the table.. when the person brought it over, there was a dead fly floating on the top. I pointed this out and she took the jug into the open kitchen, either tipped the fly out or took it out (?) then tipped the fly water into another jug instead of just getting us fresh water….
When she brought it over and I asked if I could actually have a fresh jug of water, as I had seen what she had done, she didn’t seem happy. So she filled up the same jug again, didn’t bother adding ice and then plopped it on the table with some dirty glasses. I shared a glass with my mam because the other glass was dirty and had red(?) splotches.
Surely it actually would’ve been less effort to just get us a fresh jug of water…

The food was alright, the bread topping was really nice.
The person who served us on the till was welcoming and kind.
£54 for 2 full breakfasts (pictured), 1 half breakfast, 1 breakfast stottie, hash browns and 4 coffees.

The farm shop itself is nice. I probably wouldn’t return..

I live 5 minutes away from this place and i never heard of it, i tried it for lunch and it was fantastic.
I had organic angus brisket and onion in a bun with blue cheese, the beef was so tender and tasty!! Beautiful! After that i had a slice of black forest chocolate cake, it was really nice! I didn't try the coffee this time but im definitely going back for it!

Definitely worth a visit. Cafe was lovely and had a fantastic range of homemade cakes. Lunch dishes were a little on the expensive side, but cakes ranged from £2 - 3.50, so about the going rate. The highlight, however, was definitely in the pig shed, where there was lots of gorgeous, happy saddleback babies and their mothers. Absolutely made my day stroking them 🐷

Miserly portions, overpriced and over 30 minutes wait for a tea and a coffee, when we asked what the holdup was one of the staff went to find someone else to do it, apparently we were waiting in a queue just for drinks and still had four people ahead of us, despite there being three members of staff mooching about talking and the place was practically empty. I decided to just drive home and make my own tea quicker.
