I'd highly recommend visiting Beacon Down Vineyard. I've been on a few vineyard tours and this one stood out the best among other larger very commercialised vineyards, as Paul was not only the tour guide but also the owner and farmer. So you got insights into his family's journey from choosing to start this venture, how to select land and grapes to learning how to plant and look after vines. The tasting showed how delicious the wine was and we definitely left with a few bottles. After the tour we had a picnic overlooking the gorgeous vineyard with forest and the South downs in the back drop. If you want an incredible experience and to support a family run vineyard I'd highly recommend!

We had a great visit to Beacon Down Vineyard. While it is off the beaten track and you could miss it driving past, it is well worth stopping.
Firstly, they welcome dogs which was great for us as we needed somewhere that did. Secondly, they were really friendly when we were there.
We had a two hour tour of the vineyard, learning about its origins and its upkeep. That finishes with a tasting of three of their wines, all of which were very good.
Finally, we stayed for a picnic that was really good value and good food, washed down with some of their great wine.
Fantastic visit.

It's a really nice location and it's fabulous to see a young family having a go at starting and running a business. You can't help but admire Paul and Alison for their enthusiasm and knowledge. They are a very pleasant couple and more than happy to chat to you about their vineyard and background.

Personally I think the preamble before the walking tour was a just a bit too long. I think I would have preferred the same talk but given at various locations on the vineyard rather than all at the start as it was all a bit too much to take in. I was getting too hot sitting there and the seats are only comfortable for a few minutes rather than 25 but then again I am getting on a bit!

Regarding the vineyard tour itself, the ground is quite steep and slightly uneven so you need sensible shoes or walking boots. Also on hot days take a bottle of water as none is provided at the start and there's little shade obviously as it's a vineyard so suncream and a hat or sun umbrella would be sensible to bring with you.

The talk and tour lasts about 80 minutes and then you get a chance to sample the wine which is very good and certainly much better than some of the stuff the super markets sell. We thought the sparking white was absolutely fabulous. Personally I felt that they could have done a bit more marketing at this point and perhaps a special offer if you bought a case or a discount if you bought 4 bottles or at least something. Really a missed opportunity I thought. I didn't see many people going off with bottles of wine which is normally what happens at the end of a vineyard tour.

Anyway it's early days for them and it's only a small business at this point but I reckon they will do really well over time. Certainly well worth a visit and I wish them all the best for success.

Inspiring and informative talk and tour of the vineyard. Paul was really engaging and gave a great talk without using any complex language so it was really accessible. The picnic after is well worth it and includes high quality local produce. Cards accepted too which is great as you'll almost certainly buy some wine.
In total the talk, tour and lunch takes 2.5-3 hours and represents good value.
