Hired a 5 ton log splitter, but even tiny logs that easily split with an axe it couldn't handle; they said it might be low on hydraulic fluid. They had another machine, but couldn't collect the dud one, so was an hour round trip to drop it back. But same again with the other machine, absolutely no power. Definitely recommend avoiding their log splitters. Took a day off work to hire this, so wasted day a and all the driving. 2 stars as they didn't kick up a fuss about giving my money back, but when you go to a hire firm you do expect the kit to be decent and properly maintained.

Thanks for your reply Arrow - looking at videos of similar splitters online, and they can handle exactly such rounds as I was attempting fine - plus would be rather mad if the only logs it could split were a minimum of about 60cm long, too big for a wood burner for example. If it is the case that they can only (counter intuitively) split much longer logs, then I really should have been told this when I enquired about the rental, rather than this provided as an implausible reason after such hassle... If I were you, i'd either be sending those splitters to the manufacturer for servicing, or replacing them with something that simply does work. Cheers
