Fantastic getaway in a perfect location to see what Dumfries and Galloway has to offer. We stayed in the Lapwing Lodge. The lodge was cosy, light and big. The heating worked a treat but having the log burner on in the evenings was a true luxury. It had everything we needed and looked onto the beautiful hills in the distance. The lodge itself is right next to the beach and we spent hours looking for the fossils and playing with my 9yr old and dog. There are lots of walks around the estate and a 2 minute walk around the beach is a fantastic pub serving great food all day. The owner, Jamie, was incredibly helpful so our stay went without hitch. We were sad to leave and we will be back again!

Where do I begin? To say that shore cottage did not match our expectations would be a gross understatement!!! The place smelled awful and we were grateful to our son who arrived before us and asked us to buy air fresheners from Dumfries before we arrived. The place is run down and unkempt, windows cracked and rotting, pictures taken. Dead insect in kitchen cupboard. Old chipped crockery, dirty drapes. Old microwave with paint flaking off. Access to beach via a steep dangerous unmaintained path. We’ve rented numerous cottages throughout Scotland, this was the worst we have encountered by some considerable distance. We stayed one night and then left.

Lovely area to visit. Watch out for numerous potholes on track down to lodges. Car bottomed out several times, unable to avoid them. Stayed in Lapwing lodge, nice comfortable beds and nice shower over bath. Plenty of room in lodge. Could do with some brighter lighting as a bit dingy at night. (No good for reading) No bulb in shaver light didn't help, only one of three spot lights working in kitchen area. Satellite internet useless. No sea view from lodges as hedges overgrown. Beach not easy to get to as you have to clamber carefully over various rubble to get on it . Could do with a bigger tv for the size of the lodge. (Although if you're a birdwatcher and got your binoculars you'll be ok) Apart from that had a great time, place just could do with a bit of tlc.

Spent a week at Shore Cottage on the Arbigland Estate in April 2018 . Comfortable accommodation in a wonderful spot and sensational views. Definitely recommended.
