Hard to believe this is the largest vine in the world. But massive roots occupy an area of adjacent garden plot far larger than the greenhouse.

The largest vine in the world is here at Hampton Court. The Great Vine (Vitis vinifera 'Schiava Grossa' or Black Hamburg) was planted in 1768 by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. The vine measures 3.83 meters around the base and the longest rod is 36.5 meters long. On average, this single vine yields about 270 kg of grapes.

England's largest vine, planted in 1768. If you visit in the August bank holiday time you are likely to be able to buy a bunch of grapes in the gift shops. They are truly the best grapes I have ever tasted.

Hampton Court Palace is one of my favorite places in London, but the great vine is a let down. There are much more interesting things to see at the palace, but if you’re going, you might as well be able so say that you have seen the biggest vine in the world.
