We had the pleasure of visiting Black Down today, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The landscape is breathtaking, offering panoramic views that are both serene and inspiring. One of the highlights was encountering a herd of freely roaming cattle, which added to the charm and natural character of the area. The paths are well-maintained, and the combination of open heathland and ancient woodland creates a wonderfully varied walking experience. It is a place of outstanding beauty and tranquillity — well worth a visit for anyone seeking a peaceful escape into nature.

We only had about an hour due to an upcoming appointment. With lack of map in the car park, it was difficult to know which paths to take / where they went / how long it'd take. That was annoying. We also therefore couldn't identify where the view point was. So do your research / know your route beforehand.
That aside, it's a gorgeous area with free parking and relatively we'll managed paths (very muddy in parts but still passable)

Beautiful area of heathland that is the highest point in the South Downs National Park. A network of sandy trails leads around the hill, crossing through heather clad banks, passing by small ponds and between impressive pine trees. There are two small free parking areas near the summit but no other facilities.
From the top of the hill there are stunning views to the southwest over the wooded hills of Hampshire, southeast along the ridge of the South Downs towards East Sussex, and northeast to the Surrey Hills.
The area has a connection to the poet Tennyson at the Temple of the Winds, where you can watch a short video about the area by scanning the QR code on the inscribed stone.

Really lovely walk, we saw loads of wildlife, deers, ponies, horses and all sorts. Definitely regretted not wearing wellies, though this time of year! Would do it again in spring for sure

Had an amazing hike with friends on this trail! The views were stunning, and we even spotted some friendly cows along the way. The path was well-marked and offered a great mix of challenge and scenery. Highly recommend this trail for a fun day out with friends!
