We had a really lovely stay at Fornet House, Alison is a very welcoming hostess and a great cook. We really enjoyed the breakfasts and also enjoyed a very memorable late supper of Scottish smoked salmon and French red wine. We stayed one night in the yellow theme double room and another in the pink. Both have beautiful and quirky decor and artworks and wonderful bathrooms. The beds are extremely comfortable , very warm and cosy. Our only regret was that we were not able to stay longer. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a warm, friendly and cosy retreat in Dufftown and are saving our pennies to come back for another visit. My brother and I stayed here with a couple of friends from Germany. We were on the Whisky Trail and the Fournet is well located for lots of distilleries. There are also a couple of good pubs for whisky and beer just round the corner. One is also a good restaurant.||We weren't sure quite what to expect of Fournet but were pleasantly surprised. Alison was a wonderful host who couldn't do enough for us. When one of our group left his jacket behind, Alison e-mailed us straight away and kindly parcelled the jacket up and posted it to us. The breakfast (included in the room price) was without doubt the best we had on our tour of Scotland. Both the cooked breakfast and the continental breakfast were excellent and were made fresh; in contrast to all the other hotels we stayed in. The plentiful supply of tea, coffee, biscuits etc in every room made a pleasant change from what you get elsewhere. The rooms are a bit quirky (but spotless) but if 4 burly blokes can cope with the soft furnishings, I can't understand why anybody else would feel uncomfortable in the rooms.||If you prefer your hotel room to look like every other hotel room you've ever stayed in, then Fournet might not be the right place for you. If, however, you're looking for a friendly Highland welcome only a short walk to and from the Glenfiddich distillery, then I would recommend Fournet (unless you're allergic to cats)

My first impression was the strong smell of cat urine in the common areas. Alison has a few cats, and while they stay mostly confined the smell permeates. It's not so bad in the rooms, especially higher up, but I still needed to keep my windows open to be comfortable. My next impression was of all the pillows and trinkets and everything, which many people may like (I see it described as a doll house, and can't argue that), but I didn't really feel very comfortable. Originally we planned to stay two nights but in advance changed it to one, and I'm glad we did because I didn't want to stay a second day as there really wasn't much to do or places to eat in town, and I didn't want to hang around in the B&B. Internet didn't work on the top floor, but on the 2nd floor it worked ok for me. The shower room was clean and large. Alison herself seemed a bit eccentric but was actually very nice to talk with, and it was probably our pleasant conversation in the morning that brought my rating up from 2* to 3. Breakfast was very sufficient and good, and she wanted to make sure we each had everything we wanted. Location is very good, a block or so from the clocktower at the town center, but nothing in town is far. Other than Edinburgh, this was the most expensive place we stayed and there was nothing to justify the price. Little wonder that we were the only guests there. Oh, and in the evening we could hear the heavy fire doors slamming shut quite often. Since we were the only ones there it must've been the host. I was just about to go down and say something as it was happening every couple minutes up to 11pm, but then it fell silent and stayed that way. One in our party had skipped the late afternoon whisky tour and said there was a lot of door slamming then.||||Bottom line, if you don't like cats and cat smell, don't come here for sure. If you don't like a lot of clutter, you might look elsewhere, and I feel like there must be better places for the price. But if you're looking for something unique, maybe this will be for you.

We had a wonderful stay here thanks to the helpfulness and graciousness of our hostess, Alison. She is a marvelous cook, very accommodating to our special dietary needs. Before we came to Dufftown for the first time, she gave us information on taxis and other things via email; really went above and beyond. ||||The house has two living rooms and a garden room to hang out it if you want to be somewhere other than your room, for variety. I really appreciated the space heater in the bathroom of the Magnolia room.

Stayed for a week for the Autumn Festival. Fournet House is cozy n warm, very conveniently located to distilleries. Alison is a wonderful host and kind. The rooms were warm and reasonably sized. Bathroom is great, spacious n clean. Alison runs a tight ship without hard n strict rules, and makes an awesome hardy breakfast. Prices are very reasonable. Internet is touch n go, but the same in all of Dufftown. Thank you Alison for taking care of us. Will definitely return to Dufftown, will definitely stay at Fournet house again.||Book way in advance. This place is quite popular.||Completely ignore the negative review you read on the this place. These are difficult people to satisfy no matter where they stay

Stayed at Fournet House and got the room on the top floor, I think it was Magnolia room. Anyway, a bit from the average hotelrooms I stayed in 🙂 This is more like moving in with someone in their apartment. Open fire in the bathroom, cd-player with a variety of music to choose from etc etc.||||The hotel is a bit old and the stairs is not of the quiet sort if you know what I mean - it´s very hard to get to the room silent :-)||||But it doesn´t matter - this hotel got charm and should be a bit different. Alison who runs this hotel is a lovely lady and you can get lots of help from her, both during your stay but also before your trip if you have any questions through email. My varmest recommendations if you´re not allergic to cats.||||Wi-Fi works best outside the showerroom, not so good inside your room.

This guest house is run by a very friendly British lady who likes to take care of her guests (and her cats and fish!). The breakfast was the best we had in all Scotland, so be sure to try that. The house is old (I thought from 1890) and has multiple rooms you can choose from. Our room was clean and had its own bathroom (with bath), tv etc. From the guesthouse you're on walking distance to the nearby castle and the Glenfiddich distillery.

Attracted by the colorful car in front of the Fournet House and the bright exterior I wanted to check it out! Inside I felt like Alice in Wonderland. The rooms have so many decorative things, that looking around feels like a treasure hunt. Little baskets, lamps, mirros and cushions make this place everything but your ordinary guest house. The bathroom even had infrared heating!||||And Alison is a wonderful host, juggling all the work, gardeners, suppliers and guests by herself! Very impressive! ||||It's a 15-minute walk to the Glennfiddich Disitillery.
