We didn't do a tour just went for lunch and to look round the Museum.

The restaurant was really nice, staff pleasant and the food was good too.

The museum had a nice atmosphere and the great hall bit was good. Just be prepared to watch for a little while. The other part was a bit small but still interesting and nicely laid out. Again staff were great and very knowledgeable.

Had a fantastic time here, firstly the membership is well worth it as you get free entry for a year to the museum and distillery tour, 10% off at the bistro and shop plus you get exclusive access to their whisky Corengyst.

I started in the beautiful bistro for brunch (I forgot to have breakfast) and had the eggs benedict with a cup of locally roasted coffee which was superb and reasonably priced.

From here I went upstairs to the great hall and museum about the Anglo-Saxon settlement near by and the Northumbrian kings at that time. The great hall has a fab video that plays and tells about some of the people at that time and what life was like. The museum has a mix of locally found exhibits and some that are on loan from the British museum.

Next came the highlight a tour of the distillery and tasting of Thier whisky and gins (you ideally need to book a timeslot for this). Our guide Bob was great at explaining the process of how the whisky and gin are made and the reason why there is a distillery in Wooler.
Bob then handed us over to Johnny for the tasting who explained how the whisky gets it's colour and flavour. Johnny that went through the steps on how to smell and taste the whisky and how adding 2 drops of water to it changes the flavour profile.

As you can tell I thoroughly enjoyed going and now thinking up reasons to go back and who to drag along with me.

P.s Don't forget to go across the road to the Doddington dairy milk bar for some fab milkshakes and ice creams.

Visited Ad Gafrin on a Sunday afternoon for a distillery tour and tasting.

The online booking system was great very informative and intuitive.

We arrived at the stunning distillery complex which was immaculate with ample car parking.

Walking through the doors really gave the wow factor, you could almost miss the Christmas decorations as the building is so stunning.

We were checked in by Ben and everything was clearly explained.

We started our visit at the Museum which is really informative about the history of the region, hi tech interactive displays and knowledgeable historians bringing the story of the ancient artifacts to life.

The distillery tour was as good as they get, no areas of limits and really up close and personal to the equipment and processes, our guide Lesley was enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

The tasting also with Ben was a unique experience, the tasting room is filled with local art and really well laid out. All of the senses are catered for and every thing explained without any attempt to influence the individual taste of each product.

We were expecting a 90 minute experience but were there for almost 4 hours and with a bit more planning on our side could have easily spent the whole day making it great value for money.

A must visit, 10/10 gem of an experience.

I booked the Twilight Tour and tasting experience for my Boyfriend's Christmas Present and we ended up with a lot more than I initially anticipated.

Upon arrival we were in awe at the decor and high ceilings that replicated the inside of a whisky barrel. The staff did not immediately pounce on us and allowed us to take it all in. We were then greeted and shown to a huge fireplace (around 7ft tall) with a live log burner. We were offered a drink which I initially refused but our server let us relax before popping back over to explain they were complementary. We chose a whisky and a gin which was brought over to us with some beautiful canapés. What I would like to point out, is the professionalism of all the staff at Ad Gefrin. It was clear all the servers were conscious on how they'd impact our experience at the establishment. You could tell the staff appreciated and loved their roles.

We were given time to relax and enjoy the crackling fire with our drinks and canapés.

Annie then introduced herself as our tour guide. She was phenomenal. Annie clearly had a passion for her role and loves where she works! She was so informative and delivered all the information in a very personal way. The tour was amazing and we all felt very comfortable!

After the tour it was time to eat!

We were met at the end of the tour by our server and she escorted us to the table. The staff at Ad Gefrin really do pay attention to detail. Our server remembered our names and took us to our designated tables so we had the correct food delivered to us. We were so well looked after. I chose the salmon rilette for starters which was beautiful! And my partner chose tempura butternut squash which was also gorgeous. We had line of sight to the kitchen and we witnessed chefs not allowing food to go out until they were completely happy with the presentation for their diners. I chose the flat iron steak for my main and my partner had the chicken and roast veg. Both dishes were cooked to perfection 🥰 I'm not usually a fan of medium rare steak, but let me tell you, I ate every last morsel!

Annie then joined us again for the taster session with our dessert. We moved to the high tables for this segment. I was a little worried at the strength of the spirits as I normally enjoy a weaker drink. But pairing the alcohol with the desserts really did make a difference and I enjoyed the dessert pairing. Once again Annie was so informative and engaged with us the right amount.

We visited the following day to check out the gift shop. After choosing our items we had a chat with one of the workers and we told her about our time the night before.
After making our purchases she let us visit the mueseum (free of charge) as we couldn't go the evening before as it was closed. We were escorted up to the mueseum by another member of staff who pointed us to the right way.

We enjoyed a small show explaining the reign of Kings at Ad Gefrin and then we spent some time playing traditional Anglo saxon board games to the side of the great hall. We could then peruse the artifacts ourselves. Mueseum staff were spectacular. They allowed us to read and discover facts ourselves they then popped over to enhance our experience with further information.

All in all, Ad Gerfin was a real treat for us! From our entrance to our second visit to the gift shop we felt like a million dollars!! So so so worth the £75pp for the twilight tour and tasting! If you're in two minds about getting this experience, I urge you to take the plunge. You will not regret it.

Staff are informative, passionate, hospitable. Ad Gefrin really is something special and the staff know this. They are quietly confident that they will create a wonderful lasting impression and it genuinely feels like they want you to remember your time with them. Thank you for a wonderful time in Wooler!

Our first visit to Ad Gefrin was an incredible experience. The tour began with a fascinating explanation of Anglo-Saxon history, followed by a visit to the distillery. We ended with a delightful tasting of whiskey, gin, and Flyte, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Tina provided excellent insights during the tour, and Jane was outstanding during the tasting session. Both were highly professional and made the experience memorable. Thank you both! I highly recommend visiting Ad Gefrin if you’re in Northumbria.

We had a wonderful anniversary meal here whilst visiting the area.

The food was amazing, and the 2 hosts who were on shift were knowledgeable with both the food and drinks.

We were made to feel special the moment we walked through the door, all the staff made our evening memorable.

Thank you so much!
