In time Scott the salesman develops a blatantly and disdainfully proud attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things perceived to be inferior, he begins very well, and would get 5 stars for effort but his view has to be final and he advises in a stern manner that he is the expert, he has the business so it's an unequal relationship, he has all the shiny toys and you're going there to buy one of them. Never introduced his wife who works there everyday, she never answers if spoken to, but starts complaining to him if you do, they're aloof and Scott like a salesman asks a lot of probing questions that might be mistaken for friendliness but is a means of assessing your sales worthiness. You might feel closer to him after trusting him but the favor isn't being returned, he doesn't reply to e-mails he has assured beforehand that he always does reply to, will call you back if you're a phone number he wants to encourage but he doesn't call back unless you're a prospect, if you just call with different numbers, he'll answer a strange one but if you've got something under repair or you're a number he doesn't want to deal with, you'll have to go in and talk to him. The married JBW Smith couple are rude and unkind but Scott can be generous in gifts, boasting afterwards as in their gifting a Leaf Blower to St Andrews Tennis Club. Two stars is a fair rating, 5 for early effort but I wouldn't want to be seeking after sales service here. 8 week waiting list for even looking at a tool for servicing, long delays in advice on a job lot, customers often with new tools by the time Scott is heard from again. £130 for the annual mower service, changes an air filter and the oil, checks engine speed and adjusts to prevent fast running and increased wear. Scott cannot bear to give quotes if he suspects you're talking to any local competitors, he complains that he doesn't know what to say and appears afraid of others knowing the prices. We're advised to do mower servicing over winter because of the time taken to service a lot of machines. Talks to other customers inside about other customers when they're outside, not a very nice thing to do but there are a lot of bottled gas visitors and cronies, one carrying a broken hickory wood spade handle, that keep appearing with the same handle as if a scheme of some kind was in the offing. Tricky Dicky sales attitude in busy times, no loyalty, enjoys your pain when involving other customers or reps in opposition to you. Boasts of being shouted at and disliked by everybody but actually has a loyal following from the gas bottle community, with whom he plays victim of a difficult customer (and you know then where you come in). He had a business partner that was dying of cancer and related a sob story (a story or explanation intended to make someone feel sympathy for the person relating it) he's full of these stories, always complaining about others. Doesn't remember who he has complained to, a week later had reacted aggressively to my knowing what he'd disclosed a week previously. "How did ... YOU ... know that?" Had an epic battle with a skip supplier that he couldn't get emptied, told me he had shouted at the supplier and you know ... after sales service is going to be subject to more of the same, so 'we'll contact you, don't contact us sales' style. Very difficult to deal with long term but glib, appears pleasant and very helpful in early interactions but it's hard work to stay in that service manner, it's a performance he can't sustain and his wife, staff and cronies have to be able to cope. Orders spare parts in your presence then just cancels the order the next day and just forgets about all about it, clueless when you remind him and makes very high priced spare part quotes thereafter. Not honest in words, sets up schemes playing one person off another, we have to negotiate carefully around chess-like situations involving other people working nearby, best by himself, difficult in the presence of any other person. Worth a visit but hard work and we leave feeling drained.

From buying my Husky 435 chainsaw and recently bought a Mitox 26u strimmer. I have used this shop for servicing and parts. Have been happy to give repeat custom. Any problems, talk to Scott. Hamish.
