We've had a steak, roasts and venison from George Bower and each and every time we're so happy with what we get.

Beef is amazing
Venison loins are some of the largest I've ever had and it's just delicious

Stockbridge is also worth a wander around so if you're after a trustworthy butcher, make the effort to come here!

Best butchers in town. Family business at its prime. Been going there for more than 30 years and never been let down. Excellent quality butcher. Be prepared to q at the weekends. Well worth the wait

After 3rd visit at the shop I decided to share my views , especially after last weeks veal got which was absolutely perfect. The taste took me back in time and It was just the way it should be. Also the gentleman was kind and proffesionall. It seems that among all the other shops in Edinburgh this one somehow managed to keep the proper produce, etiquette and it is the shop me and my wife will come back many many times. It is soo much more satisfying and gratifying to get a proper meat , eggs even garlic ( unbelievably good) once a week than waste money at supermarkets . If you haven't tried and you feel like you would like to eat something remarkable, give a try ad if you have any questions how to prepare any meal - just ask - will come back home with 1st class produce , cooking idea and "feel good" attitude .

Amazing local produce and variety. Could not decide the Butcher was helpful and guided me told me best way to cool the steak. Has game and wild rabbit something I will get next time I am in the area

Twice I’ve been in now and thought one of the male servers is pretty rude. Dark hair. When I was enquiring about fillet the guy who was serving turned to a guy who just walked off the street who I then realised worked there! He then — without washing his hands or putting on any protective clothing or gloves on walked off the street and picked up a bit of fillet tail from the window area and then put it on the scale and said — there is a bit. Just like that was normal practice ! he and one of the workers clearly don’t think hygiene is important. I won’t be back. Great meat but I would be concerned with hygiene.

As regulars, we have been going to this butcher's for a while and always good meat but today our steaks were weighed at £14 on the scale but we were charged £20. Very disappointing and will not be returning. Poor.
