My kinda place; rough & ready but mama’s in the back making magic happen. Super lovely gent served me and was so polite, caring enough to fuss and clean when I sat at the only (dirty) table with the door wide open in 4 degrees cold. One delicious cup of ‘Desi Tea’ and I warmed up enough to enjoy some of the best skilfully fried veggie pakora with sweet/tangy chutney I’ve had in a while. Hot & fresh along with a lightly-skinned samosa; not greasy, just tasty. A great find courtesy of Edible Reading’s excellent food-blogging.

I'd say Cake & Cream was a decent alternative to Cake Box which kept increasing their price for no apparent reason whatsoever. But my recent experience with Cake & Cream was downright unprofessional and disappointing esp. in terms of quality and customer service.

We had picked up a cake for my birthday and found drastic difference in quality while attempting to serve the thing. Let's just say, it ruined our birthday with its totally dry and sand castle like sponginess. The baking tray was also flimsy compared to past orders. Clearly they have done a price cut at the expense of the quality and customer satisfaction.

When I called Cake & Cream the next day to complain about it, they simply asked me to drive down to them which I couldn't given the distance but requested for a refund or voucher for future use. I even wrote an email to the team but haven't heard from them since.

I'm sorry to say, I'll not be visiting them anytime soon and even if I did by some rare misfortune, I'd still stick to the chat items.

The place is small with like 2-3 tables, as they primarily serve pickup orders. They have tasty samosas and chaat items, veg curries and starters, naans. The sweets are fresh and nice, Kalakand, Jalebi and many others.

People can be seen waiting to pickup their orders almost all day long, so be ready to wait when you order, or better order on the phone/in advance.

They also make their own desi ghee priced at £18/kg. They have 3 car parking spots near the entrance, but the street side parking can also be used, if needed.

If you are fond of authentic Punjabi samosas in town, this is the best place to go to. They do have good quality cakes too. I did try few snacks spring rolls etc, they are just ok.
One thing missing is masala chai.

This used to our go to place for delicious samosas in reading, but not anymore. The quality has degraded a lot. Very little potato inside ( samosa is getting thinner)and excessive oily.

Love the food here. All kinds of Punjabi snacks, samosas, chaat, pakorahs, Asian sweets and cakes.. that's to name a few.
My go to snack is definitely the aloo tikki chaat poured all over a punjabi samosa. Delicious.
Staff are so friendly and quick. You may have a little wait for the food especially if they're busy but it's never for too long and always worth it.

I had been to this shop today for the samosas. I had samosa chat and it was good. My kid bought a cake from the display and it was pathetic. It was spoilt. I think I should report it.

Perfect spot to buy traditional Indian sweets, snacks and dinner. Lots of variety available in the display fridges. Also have their own bombay mix and other snacks. We bought our naan from here to go with home cooked meals. Very popular spot with the locals!
