As a small business we have traded with J & R Food Service for around 8 years. This year due to the pandemic we had very little trade and therefore did not place many orders with J & R Food Service. After the first lock down, in September we had a few more trading opportunities so began placing some orders with J & R. We then discovered that the prices we had negotiated with their area representative were no longer valid and we were been charged considerably more for each product we ordered. On contacting them about this we were told that because our order level was low during the year, they had put us in a different price band, i.e. raised our prices considerably. As the local representative said it was out of his hands, I took this up with the Senior Sales representative Simon Tassell explaining the reason, i.e. the pandemic, for our lack of purchases. Despite us telling him that we were struggling to keep going, he showed little sympathy and the only compromise he would make was if we accepted going on a minimum order of £50 he would put the prices back as they were prior September. For a small firm trying to get back on its feet with most events and shows not taking place ordering a minimum of £50 worth of goods each time would have made it impossible for us to trade with J & R. The ironical thing is that J & R's selling point is that there is no minimum order.
Over the years we have spent thousands of pounds with J & R; they now seem to have little time for their small 'bread and butter' trader or our past loyalty.
We felt so strongly about this that we then emailed the Managing Director, Jan Whitehouse via his secretary. In turn we emailed three times but never received a reply. In desperation we again contacted the local sales representative who has always been helpful asking him to follow this up, again we received no reply.
On their website they show reviews which are full of praise; I wonder if they will put this one on; obviously not.
Over the eight years we have noticed a change in the standards of J & R both in term of ordering and particularly deliveries - changing from being very reliable to being very hit and miss.
In the past we have recommended many traders to use J & R and this is the thanks we get!

I don't know about the service. But the drivers are appealing. Speeding, tailing gating and using their phones when driving. Today on the motorway I was shocked by the driver who was obviously in a hurry, but the road safety was disgusting.

On three separate occasions I had cause to query their working practice as on each occasion the weight on the packets were up to 30% lower than the amount charged for. I received credit notes and apologies for the first 2 instances and am being ignored over the last event. I have reported them to Trading Standards (weights and measures) and have also raised a dispute with my card provider. "Buyer beware!" Check the pack weights against their invoice!

A dreadful company to do business with the deliveries are never on time, the staff and tele sales are rude and the accounts department communication is very poor. The products are over priced and poor quality
